Valentine Bunting Banner D.i.Y

I know today is Friday and I usually like to talk about photography but seeing as Valentine's Day is next week I thought I would share this cute little D.i.Y project that I originally found at a blog called Simple as That. She did it for Christmas.

As I mentioned before I might not appreciate the entire concept behind Valentine's Day, however; I do love to have an excuse to make a new bunting banner. In fact, I love having an excuse to switch up the decorations in my home throughout the year. So for Valentine's Day I have kept it pretty simple. I just decorated my t.v stand (I pretend it is my mantle since we don't have a fireplace)  and I added this new bunting banner to my mirror on the side table.

I just put up things that remind me of love: my favourite wedding photo of me and the hubs, my boys, turquiose candles (my favourite colour) and flowers. By the way if you are loving that printable in the large frame I found it here.

Do you want to make some bunting banners? Silly me OF COURSE YOU DO! This is what you need:

1. an old book you can rip pages out of
2. some pretty scrap book paper
3. glue or modge podge
4. twine or ribbon
5. glitter glue and loose glitter
6. washi tape

The first thing you will want to do is cut out the flags.  You can choose to make your flags any shape (triangle, rounded, or like how I did mine)

Then you will cut out your hearts. I cut my scrapbook paper into squares of 4" x 4", then I folded them in half and free hand cut out half a heart. Once you unfold your paper you have a whole heart. I'm sure all of us has done this in elementary school.

Then I glued the heart into the center of my flags

I decorated the hearts with glitter glue, this is where you can get creative.

I also embellished the flags with a little washi tape

After that, it's just a matter of attaching your flags to your twine. I simply just taped them on but you could punch two holes at the top of your flags and thread the twine through the holes too.

And that my friends is it! Easy right!

A Valentine DIY

One of the many reasons why I have committed myself to writing a blog is because I love the community it creates for you. There are so many fantastic women online who share their stories and inspire me numerous times a day.  As you will come to realize if you follow along on my journey, a lot of my meals and DIY projects have been inspired by or come from the amazing blog world, and there is nothing wrong with that in my books. I would never have tried some things if I didn't follow certain blogs. I wouldn't have even thought to do certain things, like mixing Oreo's and rice crispy squares (p.s. soooooo good!)  if it wasn't for the amazing bloggers out there!

So without further adieu, today I will be trying to make my son's Valentines with a little help from the crafty mamma at Pluckymomo.

Valentine's is one of those holidays that I think is pretty to decorate for but I'm not the biggest fan of it.  I want my kids to know that they are loved everyday, I want them to show their love everyday. I don't think they need a special day to show it. But with that said, it's cute, it's fun to give out valentines and it's nice to hear nice things about yourself from others, so I'm not overly opposed to it. Mainly, I don't like it because it's just another excuse for my kid to get loaded up on candy and chocolate and if you know my kid, you know he does not need an excuse to get crazy! So when I stumbled upon this cute and FREE printable, I knew what I was doing for Paxton's friends this year.

I found really cute heart shaped silly straws at Zhers, (a package of 6 for $2) and I just printed out the printable, cut it out, and punched two holes at the top and bottom of the printable. Then I poked the straw through the holes.

Paxton had some fun testing out his straw too!

Then I just needed a cute way to package these nifty little gifts. I found some clear cellophane with stars on it at my local Dollar Store so I just cut enough to wrap around each straw and then I tied them up with some pretty ribbon that I had in my craft bin.

Tada! Cute little valentines for all his classmates and his friends.

I think they will be a huge it!

So if you want to give out little Valentines gifts but you want to avoid the treats this just might be the gift for you.
And don't forget to go check out Pluckymomo's cute blog, she has rounded up a bunch of great ideas for non-treat valentines. If you don't want to do the crazy straws there are lots of other neat ideas.

I would love to hear what you come up with!
